Coverage for Alabama Owner-Operators

Primary Auto Liability

Required when you run under your own authority. For interstate for-hire general freight, the FMCSA minimum is $750,000, and many brokers require $1,000,000. We file your proof of insurance when you bind so your authority stays active.

Non-Trucking Liability (Bobtail)

For owner-operators leased to a motor carrier. Your carrier's policy covers you under dispatch, and non-trucking liability covers you when you drive off-dispatch for personal use. Many lease agreements require it.

Physical Damage

Covers your tractor and trailer for collision, theft, fire and weather, whether you run under your own authority or leased on. Lenders and lease-purchase programs usually require it.

Motor Truck Cargo

Covers the freight you haul under your own authority. Most brokers require at least $100,000, and higher-value freight needs more. We match your limits to what you haul.

Owner-Operator Rules to Know in Alabama

Own Authority or Leased On

Under your own authority, you carry your own primary liability, cargo and filings. Leased to a carrier, the carrier's policy covers you on dispatch, and you usually need non-trucking liability and physical damage. We quote both setups.

USDOT and MC Authority

If you haul for pay across state lines under your own authority with a truck rated 10,001 lbs or more, you need a USDOT number and MC authority, plus a BOC-3 on file.

Alabama PSC Authority for In-State Loads

If you haul freight for pay on loads that stay inside Alabama under your own authority, you also need intrastate authority from the Alabama Public Service Commission, with proof of liability and cargo insurance on file.

Owner-Operator Freight Across Alabama

Alabama owner-operators run Port of Mobile containers, Gulf Coast distribution, auto parts and manufacturing freight, and timber and flatbed loads on I-65, I-20/59 and I-10. Hurricane season and long rural runs both matter when you insure your own truck. Tell us how you run and we will match you with carriers that write it.

Hurricane Season Protection

When a hurricane shuts down the coast, trucks sit idle while bills keep coming. Vortex parametric hurricane coverage pays a set amount when a qualifying storm passes within your chosen radius. See weather coverage →
