Hurricane & Hail Coverage That Pays Fast.
Your auto physical damage and cargo policies were not built for the deductibles and downtime a major storm leaves behind. Vortex parametric weather insurance pays a set amount when a measured trigger is met, like a Category 3+ hurricane crossing within 20 or 40 miles of your yard. No proof of physical loss, with payouts typically within about two weeks. Available to fleets in 16 states.
- ✓ Terminal, Yard & Depot Hurricane Protection

When severe weather hits, the claim is rarely the whole story. Deductibles stack up across every damaged unit, trucks sit idle while drivers and lease payments still need to be paid, and traditional business interruption usually will not respond unless something is physically damaged first. Parametric coverage is built to fill exactly those retained risks.
Terminal, Yard & Depot Hurricane Protection
Headquarters, freight terminals, cross-docks, and storage yards along the Gulf and Atlantic coasts, from Houston and New Orleans to Mobile, Florida, and South Carolina, carry real hurricane exposure. A Vortex parametric hurricane policy pays out when a qualifying storm passes within your chosen radius, giving you cash for the costs your other policies leave on you.
- ✓High physical damage deductibles
- ✓Temporary yard relocation
- ✓Generator rentals
- ✓Emergency fuel during shutdowns
Revenue Protection When Weather Parks Your Fleet
When major storms, blizzards, or extreme rainfall close interstate corridors or port terminals, trucks sit idle but fixed costs keep running. Traditional business interruption usually needs physical damage first. Parametric coverage does not, so you get fast liquidity when severe weather halts regional operations.
- ✓Driver pay while trucks sit
- ✓Truck and trailer lease payments
- ✓Insurance premiums and fixed overhead
- ✓Lost loads from port or corridor closures
Fleet & Yard Hail Defense with HailSafe
From Denver and the Front Range to Dallas/Fort Worth, the Plains, and north Alabama, a single hailstorm over a terminal can hit every staged truck, unassigned unit, and trailer on the lot at once, and each one carries its own physical damage deductible. HailSafe parametric hail coverage from Vortex helps absorb those stacked deductibles so one storm does not drain your operating cash.
- ✓Staged and unassigned trucks
- ✓Trailer and equipment yards
- ✓Stacked per-vehicle deductibles
- ✓Downtime while units are repaired
How Parametric Coverage Works
Pick your locations & trigger
We map your terminals and yards and set the trigger, such as a Category 3+ hurricane within a 20- or 40-mile radius.
The weather event is measured
Independent weather data confirms whether the trigger was met. No adjuster visit or proof of physical loss.
You get paid fast
When the trigger is met, the agreed amount is paid, typically within about two weeks, to use where your operation needs it.
Want a Second Look at Your Fleet Policy Too?

Parametric Weather Coverage FAQs
Who provides this coverage?+
Barefoot One places parametric weather coverage through Vortex, including Vortex parametric hurricane coverage and HailSafe hail coverage. Our licensed agents quote it, explain the trigger options, and help you pick the radius and payout amount that fit your locations.
Which states is it available in?+
We offer Vortex parametric coverage to motor carriers and logistics companies in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Texas. If your terminals or yards are somewhere else, ask us and we will check availability.
What is parametric weather insurance?+
Parametric insurance pays a pre-agreed amount when a measured weather event hits a set trigger, such as a Category 3 or stronger hurricane passing within a chosen radius of your location. You do not have to prove a physical loss, so payouts are typically issued within about two weeks.
Does it replace my commercial auto or cargo policy?+
No. Parametric coverage is supplemental. It sits alongside your primary liability, physical damage, and motor truck cargo policies to help with costs those policies leave to you, like high deductibles and lost revenue when weather shuts you down.
Can I use the payout for anything?+
Payouts are generally not tied to a specific repair bill, so carriers commonly use the funds for deductibles, driver pay and truck notes during a shutdown, yard relocation, generator rentals, or emergency fuel. Your policy wording controls, and your agent will walk you through it.
What if my yard is damaged but the trigger is not met?+
Parametric policies pay only when the measured trigger is met. If the event does not meet the trigger, there is no payout, even if you had a loss. That is why it works best as a layer on top of your traditional coverage, not instead of it.
Can you also look at my main fleet policy?+
Yes. While we set up weather coverage, we can review your current commercial auto, physical damage, and cargo program and quote it ahead of your next renewal, with no obligation to switch.
Parametric coverage is supplemental and does not replace commercial auto liability, physical damage, or motor truck cargo insurance. Payouts depend on the specific trigger and terms in your policy. Offered in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Texas. Coverage is subject to underwriting approval. Vortex and HailSafe are trademarks of their respective owners.
